The 3rd annual Children & Family EMMYS (CAFE) took place last night in Hollywood, California. The two-part event, celebrating CAFE and CAFE Creative Arts was held at the renown CBS Television City, where iconic TV shows such as Dancing with the Stars, The Price is Right, The Bold and the Beautiful, All in the Family and Good Times have been filmed. Like some of these shows, the Children & Family EMMYS was a celebration of the programming that families can watch together. Television shows created for age infancy and beyond were awarded for their excellence in categories including Outstanding Preschool Program, Outstanding Young Teen Series, Outstanding Animated Special and Outstanding Public Service Initiative, among many others.

A standout from the evening, both on the red carpet and in the number of EMMYS claimed was Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The show, based on a best-selling children’s book series, has an incredible following and takes viewers on an immersive journey. It’s tied to Greek Mythology, so it gives kids (and adults alike) a lesson in history as well. Every young star in attendance on the red carpet said they hoped to meet the cast of Percy Jackson. (The stars of the show, Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries were in high demand on the red carpet.) And every Percy Jackson cast and crew member on the red carpet were equally as excited to see one another – making it clear they have truly become a tight unit both onscreen and off.

Beloved, generationally adored shows Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock were not only in attendance, but also walked away Emmy winners. Some of the puppets we adore may have strutted their stuff down the red carpet as well. These shows have been staples in homes for decades and still resonate strongly with viewers today. Other classics that have lasted decades as well, like Blue’s Clues were also represented. In fact, while Blue’s Clues has been nominated many times in their 30-year television run, they won their very first Emmy last night. Blue, voiced by Traci Paige Johnson was in tow to accept the gold statuette, and had a little bit to say, or shall I say, bark herself.

While actors, directors and producers were acknowledged in the first half of the celebration, costume designers, set decorators, production designers, art directors, as well as cinematographers, editors and more were celebrated in the second half of the awards show. As the red carpet was flooded with attendees, nominees and Emmy winners from all walks of the entertainment industry, it proved that every single person who is part of making a TV show, whether its for young or old audiences, or anyone in between, is an integral and invaluable part of the cast and crew. The most stated word of the night was “collaboration.” Everybody we talked with on the red carpet shared what they believe makes their show special, and that was collaboration. No single person can make a TV show; you have to work together to accomplish the goal. That is what the Children & Family EMMYS are all about, and what the shows honored teach kids – to dream big and follow their passions.
