If you are a Los Angeles resident or even just a recent visitor, you have surely noticed the explosion of “chicken joints” around town. Seemingly overnight, an entire subculture of gourmet fried chicken stands, pop-ups and sit-downs have burst onto the LA scene, and this summer, in particular has felt like an especially high point for the “chicken craze”.

Situated at the Los Angeles institution that is the Grand Central Market at 317 South Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, Lucky Bird, which opened in the summer of 2018, is not your typical “hot chicken joint”. This is something uniquely different.

Owned and operated by head chef Chris Dane and his wife Christine, Lucky Birdoffers nothing but the finest, organic ingredients in mouthwatering, homemade morsels. Every bite of chicken delivers a satisfying crunch, followed by a burst of juicy flavor. Unique and decadent sauces like Habanero Honey and Smoked Paprika Aioli adorn the menu items, and scrumptious sides like pickled seasonal vegetables, handmade biscuits, and homemade pickles accentuate the experience.

One menu staple, the classic Chicken Sandwich, is served up on a Japanese milk bun and topped with the paprika aioli, house pickles, and crisp butter lettuce, giving it that real “melt in your mouth” flavor. A spicier version of this amazing creation is also available in the form of the Buffalo Bird, which contains pickled jalapenos and a homemade buffalo sauce.

In addition to their success at Grand Central Market, Lucky Bird is currently planning a partnership with The Line hotel in Austin, Texas, which will see head chef Dane taking over the hotel kitchen for a few days in late August, giving Austin locals a unique opportunity to try these unique twists on classic Southern flavors for themselves.

At Lucky Bird, local beers are available on tap, and recently breakfast burritos have been added to the menu to accommodate the “early birds”. They are also amid their “#FCKITGETABUCKET” golden bucket giveaway promotion, a fun and innovative contest where select buckets of fried chicken purchased each weekend will contain prizes, ranging from discounts at local businesses to concert tickets!

Between the flavors, the innovative menu items, and the prizes, there is simply no reason not to check out Lucky Bird for yourself. Truly, this is the golden age of chicken in Los Angeles.
