On July 26, 2018, the musical dynasty Jackson family will remember their patriarch, who was born 90 years ago, but passed on June 27, 2018. This was 9 years and 2 days after his son, “The Greatest Entertainer of The World”, Michael Joseph Jackson’s passing. Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Katherine Jackson started their Jackson legacy almost 70 years ago in Gary, Indiana, while a 12 year-old girl, Starr Hayes in Cleveland, Ohio was creating her legacy.

On August 29, 1971 (Michael’s 13th birthday) she created an exciting, fun, and well-known establishment known as the Jackson Fan Club and became the President. Almost at its 50 year mark, Starr and her staff members have been making tremendous progress, by incorporating Jackson Doll Productions.

Today, the organization can be called The Jackson Fan Club/Jackson Doll Productions, but the President identifies it as Jackson Doll Productions because of the many great additional changes that have taken place. Its primary focus is serving children. They provide school supplies, coats, gloves, hats, shoes, underwear, socks, and toys for the children.

Also, they feed the homeless; cares for senior citizens with food, medicine, and clothing; and performs charitable events throughout the United States and overseas. They still do many things when the Jacksons are performing in concert like a mixer, “after party” and etc. To inquire or join Jackson Doll Productions, you may contact her on Facebook, “Jackson Doll Productions” and President Starr will reply.

While growing up, Starr had dreams and hopes of meeting Michael Jackson, the lead singer of the Jackson 5, just like millions of other little girls including me. The only way she felt she would meet Michael was to establish the Jackson Fan Club. She used creative approaches, including posting flyers, word of mouth, making t-shirts that read she was Mrs. Michael Jackson. (smile).

Finally, one day, Starr’s stepmother took her to a Jackson 5 concert at the Ohio State Fair when she saw Mr. Joseph Jackson standing on the side of the stage. She walked up to him with excitement “Hi I’m Starr Hayes, I’m going to marry your son”, Mr. Jackson asked, “which one” she said “Michael” and Mr. Jackson replied “Maybe, you will.”

They both laughed but Starr says she will never forget how Mr. Jackson was so kind to her knowing she was a sad and lonely little girl. She knows now, her stepmother told Mr. Jackson about her traumatic childhood experience of being abused mentally, physically, sexually and she felt alone.

Starr said her first-time meeting Michael was so overwhelming because she screamed and cried. I laughed at Starr because I could relate how I screamed and cried whenever Michael or the Jacksons would be on TV or in concert, but she was actually meeting them face to face. The Jackson 5 had millions of fans screaming (and still do at their concerts) just like the young girls are screaming now for Bruno Mars and his band, the Hooligans.

On June 16, 2018 in Detroit at the Music Hall’s outdoor concert, fans including Starr, my friends and me were still screaming for the Jacksons including Michael and Randy in their absence. Starr and I met after the concert. Since then, we have shared so many similar stories that we spend most of our times just laughing and going back to the fun childhood time when the Jacksons came into our lives.

On August 29, 2018, Michael would have been 60 years old. Starr still cries about Michael and she misses him so much and knows his fans misses him too. However, she is thankful and think of the good times God allowed her to have with Michael and his family. Through the years, she said her and Michael could relate to each other in so many ways because the mutual love they had for children, animals, and wanting to make the world a better place for the children. One special memory she shared was the time Michael invited her on stage to dance with him. WOW!

Starr’s friendship with Michael was very special and endearing. She remembers him as an intense listener, conversationalist, a great debater, a mentor, so polite, a real friend who was a true gentleman. Also, she mentioned how each brother had their unique, special style. She said, Jackie, being the oldest was always very protective of his brothers and caring; Tito was very quiet, reserved, and sweet; Jermaine was always charming, but bold and outspoken; Marlon was playful and loving; and Randy was bold and daring.

Now, 50 years later the Jacksons are still going strong. After all, the Jackson name demonstrates strength that Papa Joe and Mama Katherine instilled in all their children. Starr, affectionately talks about Mrs. Jackson being a kind, caring, loving, and wonderful person to be around. Starr loves her just like all the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchilden loves her.

In my previous Splash Magazine article, “Detroit Honors The Jacksons Review”, it shows how the Jacksons whose ages now range from 61 – 67 years old will continue to shine for a long time. As long as they continue to perform, I know Starr, the President of the Jackson Fan Club/Jacksons Doll Productions, myself, and many, many fans will be right there cheering them on.

We love the Jacksons; the forever musical dynasty family who recently had to say goodbye to Mr. Joseph Jackson, the man who started it all. Don’t worry Mr. Jackson, your sons and daughters will continue to perform around the world like they are doing now. The Jacksons and Janet Jackson had to continue their concerts immediately after your passing. I could only image how hard that was but they are the Jacksons and the “show must go on” and the legacy must go on.

Furthermore, as long as Starr Hayes has a voice and Renee Sudderth continues her journalism, your legacy and that of your family will never, ever be forgotten but told over and over!!! Your stories will continue and Ms. Starr will always love and forever be grateful and thankful to you!!!
